Imagine Yourself… Having control over the websites your kids are visiting and the chat programs they use... Never worrying about getting your computer hacked, your credit card information stolen, family photos taken from you and your everyday life put at risk... Having the best online safety systems sat up immediately to protect your business from hackers... If you´ve ever wished for those things, you’ve come to the right place. Most, if not all, of us who use technology are familiar with the concept that we need to protect ourselves online. Cyber security is all about taking meaningful steps to ensure that we do not fall victim to hackers. Many people think that employing adequate cyber security means that they download a free antivirus package every year, which will completely protect them and any data and information on their computers. This antivirus will ensure that no malicious files are never downloaded, that they do not access any websites that could be dangerous, that their identities will never be stolen, and that they are generally perfectly safe online. However, this idea is simply not true. Hackers are growing more pernicious and sophisticated every year. They have access to an entire arsenal of cyber weapons, which are often exchanged on the black market. Some of these weapons are powerful enough to bring down websites run by governments and even break into computer servers run by the United States. The need for adequate cyber security is so great that companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year in order to protect themselves. However, for many, they must learn the hard way before they implement the protections that they need: they do so only after becoming the victims of security breaches. There is no way to 100% guarantee that you will not become the victim of a computer hacker. However, if you take meaningful steps to protect yourself online, such as 1. Language: English. Increasingly, identity theft is a fact of life. We might once have hoped to protect ourselves from hackers with airtight passwords and aggressive spam folders, and those are good ideas as far as they go. But the truth is there are people out there - a lot of them - who treat stealing your identity as a full-time job. One such company is a nameless firm located in Russia, which has a trove of over a billion Internet passwords. Another set up a website full of live streams of hacked web cameras, showing everything from people´s offices and lobbies to the feeds from baby monitors. Even purchases made in person are still logged by retailers like Target, who are famously vulnerable to hackers. Adam Levin, a longtime consumer advocate and identity fraud expert, is your guide to this brave new world. By telling memorable stories and extracting the relevant lessons, he offers a strategy for dealing with these risks. You may not be able to prevent identity theft, but you certainly shouldn´t wait until it happens to take action. Levin´s approach is defined by the three M´s: minimizing risk, monitoring your identity, and managing the damage. The audiobook is also organized around the different problems caused by identity theft: financial, criminal, medical, familial, etc., enabling listeners to dip in to the sections most relevant to them. Swiped is a practical, lively audiobook that is essential to surviving the ever-changing world of online security. It is invaluable not only for preventing problems but for helping cope when they arrive. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Adam Levin. As children get older, they will want to know more. With the emergence of the Internet, this is easier than parents think. All it takes is a few keystrokes and they have come to the website of their choice. Even with that, children find ways to get the information they want. Being online exposes children to a new way of exploring things. Or they will access one of their favorite children´s television websites and look at old episodes of their favorite shows. If it doesn´t cost them much of anything, they will take advantage of what the Internet has available. Even though a child may land on a child-friendly website, some of them do have chat rooms. Who says they would not try to access one of them? If they get lonely, they can look for new friends online. These are people they have never met before. Down the road, they start to feel comfortable talking to them. Then once they get to know them, they seek out people who have their same interests. Little do some of these children know that they may be setting themselves up for trouble if they´re not careful. The person on the other end seems to be interested in having a ´´friendship´´ as well. This ´´friendship´´ gets so intense that the child starts pouring out their heart to them. They start to divulge their innermost thoughts and problems. They think that the person on the other end will be willing to help them. What the person is really doing is trying to get a hook to take advantage of them. The child is then lured with promises of attention, giving and loving by way of the Internet. Then, once they think the child feels comfortable with them, they start to introduce them to content of a sexual nature. Being that most children are curious by nature, they seek to find out more. So the person starts sending them sexually provocative images and talks to them in a sexually explicit manner. In essence they´re being brainwashed to renounce their normal life as a child. 1. This is now my third short subject audiobook regarding a negative publishing experience I have had on the World Wide Web, that I was eventually able to glean positive things from. While I have written about other similar experiences in past audiobooks, this is my first time for relating this particular one. When content contributors recognize a downward trend in treatment from the administration of websites they enter into contract with, they should seriously consider taking some degree of action to overcome it, as an obstacle to their own growth as authors. Over time, this can make a difference within the field of content websites in general, who should be willing to offer contracts/agreements that are reasonably beneficial to writers and treatment toward them that is reasonably fair for their hard work. Certainly content websites should also protect their own interests and should be recognized for having the authority to correct their contract contributors and to also reprimand them when it becomes necessary. If such a relationship becomes unreasonably imbalanced in the favor of either party, the slighted party should be prepared to seek resolution to the problem. I believe it is important for sincere writers to move forward from negative experiences they may have in regard to online publishing, which is the subject of this audiobook. It is my sincere hope that the personal experience I relate within these headings and the advice I add to my related experience, will offer a bit of positive inspiration to my fellow online publishers, who are simply seeking to enter into honest relationships with ethical e-commerce companies. 1.
