The main objective of this research is to increase academic understanding as well as provide managerial implications in relation to the determinants of the levels of web adoption for marketing purposes by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Egypt. Web adoption is specifically defined in this research as the ownership of a website to communicate and/or deliver travel services to a target market.This research is thus interested in how the web is being used to interact with customers. Additionally,the levels of adoption represent the different levels that SMEs go through in their adoption process starting with not owning a website to being a simple adopter to being a sophisticated adopter. Non-adopters do not own a web site. Simple adopters own web pages that have facilities for information provision and communication whereas sophisticated adopters own web pages that have facilities for online booking and completing a full transaction online. It is worth noting that the levels of adoption are interrelated and are not static but are part of a process of eEvolution.
With a growing complexity of food supply chains, consumers are today concerned with being distanced from the actual origin of the food they buy and eat. This thesis explores the potential of traceability of regionally produced milk in regaining trust from consumers and adding value to the products. The medium-sized Swedish dairy Skånemejerier has developed a patent pending technology with which milk cartons can be traced through their website and mobile application. On commission by Skånemejerier, this thesis sets out to find the value proposition in the novel technology - how to improve it and to find opportunities for its commercialization. A customer survey, website interface analysis, several qualitative interviews and literature on food traceability constitute the major inputs of data. A number of practical opportunities for how to improve the offering are presented, together with several more strategic approaches on expanding the offering into business models. This book was originally written as a Master's thesis for Skånemejerier, but any marketing and communications professional with an interest in traceability of consumables will find this and interesting read.
The development of e-commerce adoption in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries has not been adequately researched to provide depth and practical understanding. This book explores the factors affecting e-commerce adoption in SMEs in a developing country context of Botswana. The research was undertaken in an interpretive paradigm with case studies in nine SMEs. Data collection tools and techniques involved face-to-face semi-structured and unstructured interviews, telephone interviews, website content analysis, document analysis of SME reports and observations. A conceptual framework was developed to capture elements from extant e-commerce adoption literature. This book makes a theoretical and methodological contribution by providing a philosophically-derived interpretive approach for understanding e-commerce adoption factors in developing country SMEs. Strategies and implications of research findings for the selected SMEs are discussed intensively. The book will be useful to managers of SMEs, senior undergraduate and graduate students in information systems, ICT policy makers in government, public and multinational organisations, and ICT managers.

This thesis used quantitative survey questionnaire and qualitative interview approaches to assess how SMEs in Denmark are using the internet as a business strategy to enhance growth and sustainability. In accordance with the theoretical model developed by synthesizing existing internet adoption and business growth models, three key determinants such as: the level of internet adoption, growth strategy, and competitive environment were investigated. Result indicates that SMEs have a considerable integration of internet particularly at the lower level which includes e-mail and website. While more than half of the firms who have fully integrated internet as part of their growth strategy have experienced exponential growth by developing new product and reaching new markets. Competitively, these firms are also able to offer high and unique value of proposition mainly through niches.
